What is Permanent Residency? I thought Residency was Permanent.
In most cases, but not all, new Residents are asked to live in New Zealand for 184 days in each of the 2 year period following their successful application for Residency. This is to help you settle in your new home. After this period a Resident can apply for PR when travel conditions fall away and you can come and go as you please. NZ Emigration will make sure you understand the conditions of your specific Visa so no mistakes are made. Failure to comply with your Visa conditions may mean you lose your Residency status.
Can I change jobs when I am in NZ?
If you are on a Temporary Work Visa then your Visa is specific to your Employer. You must either notify Immigration with a Variation of Conditions form if your are eligible or apply for a New Visa.
For Residency you will have the right to change jobs once you have met any qualifying criteria which is usually working for your Employer for 3 months once you have moved to New Zealand.

Some medical conditions will sadly prevent you from applying but these are usually severe conditions. Please contact us to learn more.
Does my Partner travel on the same Visa as myself?
For Temporary Visas, no. Each member of the family will need their own Visa and a fee is charged for each application. Dependant’s Visas will be linked to the Principle Applicant.
Families of Skilled Migrants will apply under the same application. One set of fees for everyone with the exception of the Migrant Levy where each member of the family will make a contribution.

Can I take my pet/s to New Zealand?
The UK is an designated rabies free zone which simplifies procedure on pet quarantine to New Zealand. The first step is to get your pet vaccinated, blood tested and micro chipped which you should plan at least 7 months in advance of them being transported to New Zealand.
There are good pet transporters working out of the UK who will help you with any permit paperwork and steer you in the right direction as to which quarantine centers are available to you when your pet arrives. 10 day quarantine is mandatory on arrival in NZ for UK pets. Spaces on flights for pets are limited and booked well in advance so if you are considering accompanying your pet on the same flight please make early enquiries.
